Slow cooker lentil soup

1 tbs olive oil
100 gms finely chopped or minced bacon or ham
2 large onions, chopped small
200 gm puy lentils
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1tsp cumin
1/2 tsp ground coriander
salt

Heat olive oil in a frying pan and add the bacon or ham. Sizzle a bit, then add the onion and cook until the onion softens. Empty the pan into the slow cooker, which you have put on high, then swish some water in the pan to get all those lovely flavoured scrapings off the bottom and add them to the slow cooker too. Add the rest of the ingredients to the slow cooker and stir. Add two cups of boiling water, put the lid on and leave the whole mess to get acquainted for an hour or so. Check and add more water if it seems more stewy than soupy. Cook for another hour or two, then serve with good bread. Before serving check the salt and add some pepper.
