Almost literally. A small stumble at lunchtime the other day. Came down heavily on my left foot. No pain, some internal bleeding and a weirdly behaving foot. Saw my osteopath this afternoon, she was concerned enough to send me straight to an orthopedic surgeon. It's become a snapped achilles tendon, and now it's maybe surgery tomorrow, if the university's insurers will quickly agree to pay. Otherwise next week.
Two months of convalesence in plaster and on crutches. Up to a year of rehab. Can't be true, can it? If you don't hear from me for a few days you'll know where I am.

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

My mother often says...if it's not one thing, it's another. I hate it when my mother is right! This bites...maybe convalescence and healing will go faster than they think.

Oh, M-H, I'm so sorry to hear that -- I hope all goes well, and quickly.
Sometimes it's the smallest things that demand the greatest attention...sigh.

I don't remember how long my boss's achilles took to heal... I hope yours is quite quick. I suspect broken tendons don't tend to hurt, just feel completely odd. Best of luck on the healing.

Yowch! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry to read that!
All the best for a fast and painless healing period.

Oh, jeez. I'm so sorry, M-H. The only good thing about this is that you can still knit. Heal soon!

First your back, now your foot! You ARE cracking up. I know how you feel - I slipped sideways off a gutter a while ago, broke my ankle. Youch!
I surely do hope there isn't too much pain involved, and hope the recovery goes quickly. Yes, as Julia says at least you can still knit, as long as your hands stay intact.

Ouch! This happened to one of Mr. Celia's raquetball buddies in the middle of a game. He is back at full throttle (after the prescribed convalescence). Best wishes for an easy time of it for you.

Ouch!
I so hope that the insurance responds swiftly so you don't have to wait it out!
Good luck on rapid recovery. Plot many wonderful projects for the down time...

Oh no! Oh no! "Get well soon" sounds like a vain hope, but at least I hope you are comfortable soon. Prop up your foot, some nice calm music, and knitting.

Ouch! Hope the surgery and rehab goes well.

Oh the fragility of us! I hope they do it soon and you have a speedy recovery.

Some cruel muse of fate really doesn't want you on your feet. Maybe you and Lara can swap notes about how easy it is to damage oneself without resorting to extreme sports. May your tendons knit quickly and cleanly.

I can't believe this! What are you doing to yourself? I really hope it gets dealt with immediately so you can start that very long recovery process as quickly as possible. Do keep us informed. As you can see from the comments, you've got a lot of friends out here wishing you well.

Oh. My. God. M-H, how awful! If you can, let everyone know what's happening. Boy, who'd think that just stumbling would produce an outcome like this? Even though it means more knitting time ultimately, so what? Having the leg in a cast and fumbling around on crutches doesn't make that much of a consolation prize.
Much love and concern.

M-H, how terrible, what a nightmare thing to happen. Good luck and we'll be thinking of you. Kerry & Clive.

Oh M-H!!!
I hope you get the surgery soon, and that you take whatever time you need to heal your body. I'm thinking of you and sending tendon-knitting-back-together vibes.

Holy Shit, M-H! Get better soon!

Yikes, the fragility of the human form!

Wow. What a drag!! Here's good wishes for a speedy and complete recovery!

Hey M-H - wishing you lots of interesting projects to make the recovery time go nice and fast. And hope you get a little spoilt whilst your off your feet. I think chocolate and ice-cream can help the healing process ;)
