I'm back in Sydney with Mat. I feel as if someone left my power plug out. I'm just taking it easy for a day or so. It was very hard to return to Upper Hutt and meet up with dozens of people who haven't been part of my life for more than 20 years. Of course everyone was very shocked and very supportive, and there were over 200 people at Des's funeral. But time warps are very emotionally demanding. I have no idea how Dr Who copes so magnificently.
I've quoted LP Hartley's opening line from The Go-between before, but for me this week it's especially poignant: "The past is another country; they do things differently there."
