Some of you will know how strange I find people in Sydney who claim they are 'freezing' in our mild winters. I'm going to bookmark this post to re-read the next time I feel cold in Sydney. Melissa's post is about what it's like to cope with weather that is really freezing, and without electricity.

We are the friends Melissa was visiting the night the lights went out, and yes, it was quite a fun experience. Well, sort of. On the second night, the temperature got down to about -10.5C, which is a temperature I'm pretty sure has never been recorded in Sydney. Wood heat and a gas stove have gone right to the top of our list of reno requirements. When we can afford it.

Oh, and tonight it's supposed to start snowing.

In rural PA, our power went out pretty routinely every winter, and time to time year round. Candles, torch and campstove resided in the hall cupboard for just such occasions.
That said, I get very cold in Adelaide, much colder than I would in PA. Here the houses are built to lose heat, and they do it very well! Working at home in the winter is tricky.
