I'm horribly afraid that Australia will get the government its education system has prepared it for.
I've never seen or heard so many ignorant, stupid and self-centred comments around an election. We have failing infrastructure and mounting carbon emissions, low debt, a high standard of living that has suffered least in the world from the GFC and a tiny number of refugees coming here on boats, but it seems we are about to elect a man whose mantra is "We’ll end the waste. Pay back the debt. Stop new taxes. Help families. Stop the boats." The Labor Party has failed to capitalise on the things it has achieved, like the Apology or the Health accord, for fear of taking the spotlight away from Julia and back onto Kevin, and then promises us they will be doing pretty much nothing about anything that really matters.
Heaven help us. No Broadband network, no health accord, no more money for education, no scheme to cut carbon emissions. And don't forget the nasty, old-time cabinet that is lined up to be sworn in: Andrew Robb, Bronwyn Bishop, Philip Rudd, Kevin Andrews. And, I forgot, the lovely Helen Coonan.
So much for generational change.
