After my last post I suppose it shouldn't have been a surprise to receive an email from Alison Lee, asking for a meeting. It proved to be a very valuable couple of hours, for me at least and I think for her.
Some of her questions were very helpful to me, mainly because I could answer them! There's always this fear, I think, when you're doing a PhD, that you might just be out on a limb somewhere. You read stuff, and you think, and you write stuff, and sometimes you get some feedback from your supervisors. To meet with someone who isn't your supervisor, but whose work you admire, and have her ask questions that you can answer for yourself (no correct answers sought!) is a real buzz. And I'm going to make a banner of 'the self is the project' to put above my desk.
It has quite perked me up for returning to work. Soon.
Plan for this year (no particular order):
- run the blogs at least until the end of 2007
- apply for an APA for 2008-2009
- continue to read around cognition/becoming, and find some more sophisticated stuff about online community (need to make a more detailed reading plan soon)
- talk to Peter & Judyth about an extension to my ethics so I can record interviews
- make a list of categories of key informants and think about names and some questions for each category
- learn INVIVO and sort out this licence crap!
